PrequaLification, abbreviated as PQ, is a set of drug evaluation procedures established by the WHO (World Health Organization). The drugs passing the PQ certification can be incorporated in the bulk drug procurement organized by the International Fund and the manufacturers passing the PQ certification can provide antimalarial drugs, anti-TB drugs, anti-AIDS drugs, reproductive health products, anti-influenza drugs, etc. to the countries and impoverished areas, mainly African ones.
Beijing Holley-Cotec Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. established a professional work team for the Duo-Cotecxin’s PQ certification project in April 2007. A total of more than 40 administrative and technical staff participated in and handled the registration, clinical tests, industrial GMP production, etc. At present, the dihydroartemisinin/piperaquine component of Duo-Cotecxin has been listed in the WHO Malaria Treatment Guidelines and the WHO PQ/EOI (Expression of Interest) list, and strongly recommended by the WHO.
In the tireless efforts of the work team, all preparations and raw materials were greatly upgraded at the level of GMP, and were recognized by the WHO. The project is expected to be completed in 2010. After completion of the certification, high-quality Duo-Cotecxin will successfully enter the international public procurement market to participate in the bulk drug international procurement organized by the Global Fund, UNICEF and other organizations, so as to benefit the African majority of malaria patients.
