rom May 18 to May 31, 2010, Holley-Cotec undertook the “Seminar for Malaria Control Officials from Developing Countries” in Beijing, launched by the Ministry of Commerce of P.R. China. In the seminar, in all, 41 officials from 19 countries participated in the training. From May 16, on which the first batch of participants was welcomed, to June 2, on which we sent off the last batch of participants, the project lasted 18 days. The company’s leader attached great importance, and Mr. Li Ming-zhu, director of the Ministry of Health, and Mr. Jin Xu, dean of the Training Center of the Ministry of Commerce, attended the opening ceremony and closing ceremony, respectively. The team members of the project responsibly and carefully organized and arranged every aspect, and the whole project was progressing well and was highly recognized by all participants. The project contributed to the human resource assistance program to Africa of Chinese government.
Through careful organization and arrangements, the company well set a variety of courses for this seminar, invited China’s well-known malaria experts to teach courses, carried out exchange activities through lectures, discussion, study tours and other means, and achieved satisfactory results. During the course, we introduced all participants with the pathogen biology and epidemiology of malaria, malaria diagnosis and treatment, China’s experience in integrated control of malaria, malaria control planning and emergency response, management of the Global Fund Program, clinical development and clinical studies of antimalarial drugs, etc. In the two-week intensive study, we also arranged the visit to Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases and Zhejiang Holley Nanhu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., exchanged the development trend of international and domestic antimalarial drugs, and expressed our wish to establish long-term cooperation with various countries.
During the course of the participants studying in China, in addition to the academic exchanges on the integrated control of malaria, we also arranged the participants to visit Tiananmen Square, Great Wall and the Shanghai World Expo. The participants saw with their eyes the achievements of China in the traditional culture maintenance and modernization. Throughout the course of these activities, our work has been supported and recognized by the participants. Many participants became our friendships. These activities not only enabled the participants to know about China’s customs, but also enhanced friendship, achieving the desired purpose of exchange. The participants also spontaneously gave wonderful gifts to the staff of Holley-Cotec and the training seminar. We believe that the participants will apply the contents learnt in the seminar to the malaria control work in their countries after their return, which will certainly play an active role in raising the level of malaria control in their countries.
The successful completion of the “Seminar for Malaria Control Officials from Developing Countries” has played a positive role in promoting the business development of the company in Africa.
